For International Women’s Day 2023, some of our colleagues share insights about what helps them find purpose and success in their career with Certis.
This is the story of Wu Wing Han, Assistant Manager, Executive Human Resources at Certis Hong Kong and Macau.
Wu Wing Han, may have been with Certis in Hong Kong and Macau for only over four years, but it has been an experience laden with immense satisfaction and pride.
“In my role, I am the first gate that welcomes new joiners to the Certis Hong Kong and Macau family. I am also the one helping to negotiate deals around providing various benefits for our fellow colleagues to enjoy,” shared Wing Han, Assistant Manager, Executive Human Resource team who specialises in compensation and benefits for colleagues in the corporate functions.
Pursuing Excellence
Given the sensitive nature of her work, and degree of detail involved around working through the compensation packages for colleagues, Wing Han shared that it helps to “be organised, persistent and adaptive” in order to consistently give her best in her role.
It also helps that Wing Han is one who is always on the lookout for different ways to enhance the processes at work, and to communicate as effectively as possible. This is where technology, either through innovations or applications, play a key role in allowing her to achieve that.
Her Support Structures
Like all jobs, there are peak high-stress moments to grapple with, and opportunities to take a step back and take things easy. But whenever the going gets tough, Wing Han can find inspiration and support from her teammates.
“The entire Human Resources team in Certis inspires me and keeps me going. From sharing and listening to everything spanning work to daily life matters, we are there to support each other, no matter the issue,” she shared.
Quoting a line from American diplomat Stephanie Williams’ speech on support for women: “I believe that as women, it is time to show love towards our fellow sisters, and to encourage and build up one another and not tear each other down,” it’s telling that Wing Han is one who cares deeply for others. She can often be found nurturing collaboration and mutual support for her colleagues in the workplace as she strives to be a role model.
Finding Balance
Naturally, work and life should be balanced in harmony, and Wing Han finds equilibrium by working hard, and playing just as hard. “Whenever I can, I'd be relaxing and relieving myself from the burden of dealing with challenges at work by going out shopping with family and friends, as well as walking my dog, Binwai 邊位,” she quipped.
In particular, Wing Han is always looking to spend more quality time with her mother. “She has always been there for me and was took care of me as I grew up and taught me what I know about life. Now, our roles are reversing and I would love to spend my time taking care of her,” she added.
