Acting Inspector Kumaraveloo (Kumar) has been with Certis for 30 years. He rose through the ranks from a young constable in the then-Security Transport Service, to his current appointment as an aviation security trainer and discipline master at Certis’ training arm, Certis Corporate University (CCU) located at Toh Tuck Terrace, Singapore.
A people-centric trainer, Kumar is passionate about imparting his years of experience to every trainee entering CCU’s gates. He is also a firm believer in lifelong learning and makes use of the latest technology such as virtual reality simulation to create positive and memorable learning experiences for the trainees.
Along the way, Kumar has picked up several accolades including the Pinnacle Award which is Certis’ highest award for excellence; and the Excellent Service Award (Star) which recognises outstanding individuals who have delivered exemplary and quality service. He is also a recognised authority on aviation security training, having been invited to conduct lessons at the Singapore Aviation Academy, as well as overseas in Macau and Oman for senior policymakers.
Having taken on many growth and development opportunities in Certis, Kumar counts his current appointment in aviation security training as his most memorable yet. As one of the pioneer batch of trainers, he has also played a key role in establishing the training procedures and standards from scratch.
Reflecting on his career journey in Certis, Kumar said, “In each new appointment, I found the need to upgrade myself to be proficient and competent in the work tasked to me. There was also a need to be adaptable and for continuous learning, especially from others around me.”
Kumar’s knack of stepping up to take on new challenges continued when COVID-19 struck. Today, he plays an active role in keeping his colleagues safe as one of two safe management officers in CCU, in addition to his usual duties. This includes working closely with the security team to carry out temperature and health declaration checks to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone at the campus.
